NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- An armed convicted felon is in custody after a tip to police.

At around 2 a.m., Metro police were called to the 3500 block of Brookway Drive in north Nashville, for a suspicious person who was plotting to rob another individual. A man matching the description of the suspect ran when police arrived.

The suspect allegedly threw a rifle, two handguns and an additional magazine into the woods before he ran into a duplex. Police surrounded the building and the suspect surrendered.

The suspect is identified by police as 26-year-old Sylvanus Cole III. Police say the convicted felon has been arrested 13 times over the last three years.

Two dogs were also seized from a residence while police were investigating. Animal Control took the pit bulls away after police reported them in bad shape.
