Explosion, Building Collapse in NYC

UPDATE: Two people have been reported dead and up to 17 were injured during an explosion which partially collapsed a building in New York city today. The ensuing fire reportedly reached 5-Alarm Fire status and saw over 100 firefighters respond to the scene. 

A bomb squad did respond to the scene but terrorism is not thought to be the source of the explosion. The building was reportedly under construction which could have led to the explosion and fire. 

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Fire Department says there's a major emergency response in East Harlem.

The FDNY says it has received a report of a possible explosion and building collapse around Park Avenue between 114th and 117th streets. There were no immediate reports of injuries.


WABC says residents reported hearing a large explosion in an apartment building around 9 a.m. Wednesday.
It says fire was reported in the building and residents were seeing smoke in the area.
