Nashville Mayor Karl Dean announced Thursday enrollment is now open for his Scholars Academy, a free, four-week summer program. Students who are currently grades 7 to 10 are encouraged to apply.

The program, which began in 2012, aims to help students improve their academic skills and develop their college aspirations. The free program includes transportation, meals and field trips. Scholars Academy will take place from June 9 to July 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Cane Ridge and Hunters Lane High Schools.

Students who plan to attend these high schools or live near these high schools are particularly urged to enroll. Students who live in other areas are also welcome.

There are only 400 slots available. To apply, visit http://scholarsacademy.nashville.gov.
