EXCLUSIVE: Big Trouble for Midstate Man Accused of Being a Fake Dentist

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

LEBANON, Tenn. - Police in several Tennessee and Kentucky counties say Michael Richardson never received a license to perform dentistry. Both he and his wife Lana are out on bond following recent arrests in Coffee County.

A Lebanon bail bond office off North Cumberland Road used to be Denture Express in 2010. Michael Richardson and his wife ran the dental clinic, which victims say looks pretty much the same with the waiting area in the front and 3 patient rooms behind the window.

Dozens of clients came through those doors only to come out worse than before their procedures, like one woman and her mother.

"I was going through denture cream I was using like a tube of it every two days, "said Sabrina Hayes, a former patient of the Richardsons.

Hayes does not go through nearly as much dental cream these days, but for the last four years it was a different story. Hayes and her mother, Linda Allen got their dentures from Michael Richardson and his wife Lana in May 2010. Hayes says she came to the Lebanon strip mall where the Richardsons ran Denture Express.

Hayes explained, "After I got my dentures, they didn't fit right, they were awkward, they were too big for my mouth , I couldn't chew. I couldn't talk. It was horrible."

Linda Allen added, " I may be able to wear my dentures for a week and then it will just start making sores on my mouth, so I have to quit wearing it. It's just been miserable."

Four years later police put the couple behind bars in Coffee County for starting a fake dentist office and preying on older patients in Tullahoma. Michael Richardson is indicted on unlawfully practicing as a dentist without a certification. Lana was indicted for aiding her husband.

The couple also ran an office in Columbia last year and was arrested. They will back in Maury County court on April 8th. The State Health Department says Lana Richardson is a licensed dental assistant and Michael is listed as an unapproved applicant for a dental assistant license.

Hayes described the Richardson's, "She was real friendly, he was kind of withdrawn but she was real friendly. We didn't know any different until afterwards."

FOX17 went to the Richardsons' Old Hickory home, but no one answered. Seeing that the couple lives in a nice house hits hard for Linda and Sabrina, who paid $4,500 for bad dentures.

Sabrina Hayes added, "Its a shame. There's people living on fixed incomes and they're living it up on the money that they stole from people. "
