HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn.--An affidavit Fox 17 News obtained Tuesday offers some previously unknown details about the beheading murder of James Hudgins.

Hudgins's son in law Sandie Calvert is charged in the crime.

According to affidavit, Calvert told investigators he convinced Hudgins to come over to his home February 14th to help fix a broken motorcycle.

Once there investigators say Calvert claims he shot Hudgins with a 30:30 caliber rifle and then decapitated him with a large machete, a sledge hammer and a wood splitting wedge.

Several neighbors tell Fox 17 News the crime came as quite a shock to the rural Hendersonville street where Calvert lives.

The reason Calvert gives in the affidavit for why the crime happened is equally disturbing.

Investigators say Calvert told them he recently uncovered a close family member's papers that accuse Hudgins of molesting her when she was a child.

Calvert tells investigators he then tried to reach his attorney but couldn't.

He says that's when he called Hudgins to come over.

It's a story Hudgins's family says is nothing more than a lie.

Relatives tell Fox 17 News Calvert has been in mental facilities before for shooting his vehicle and they say the molestation story is nothing more than a lie from a man who's no longer mentally stable.

A Sumner County judge ordered Calvert to undergo a mental evaluation last week after an unusual bond hearing that saw Calvert start dancing in court and claim he didn't need an attorney.

Judge James Hunter assigned him one anyway.
