Study Led By UT Researcher: Crocodiles Can Climb Trees

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

FOX News-- Forget the idea that you can hide from a crocodile by climbing a tree. A team of researchers led by the University of Tennessee's Vladimir Dinets has discovered crocodiles can climb and perch themselves on trees.

The team of researchers observed crocs and alligators in North America, Africa and Australia during the study. What they discovered was these animals can climb as high as 13-feet above the ground and as far as 16 feet down a branch. These crocs would crawl up a "completely vertical bank" and walk among the branches.

If that isn't scary enough, on croc in Australia was seen trying to climb a chain-link fence and along the Nile, crocs were seen perched on branches as much as some birds.
