WASTE WATCH: How Much of Your Tax Money Went to Lawsuits Against the Murfreesboro Mosque

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - FOX17 is following the money, tracking how hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars were spent in the battle over a local mosque. Rutherford County government tells FOX17 NEWS it spent $343,000 in legal bills to fight efforts to block the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro. Tonight, some are questioning that spending. Think about it. Every time County attorneys walked through the doors for one of the mosque trials or hearings, it cost money. As we found out, the people who run the county across the street have other things they'd rather spend that $343,000 on.

That's how much Rutherford County spent fighting opponents who believe the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro was wrongfully approved. Mosque supporters put it more bluntly. Still, opponents of the mosque argue they're not the ones to blame for this. 2 sides to one rather expensive legal case that's forcing Rutherford County to spend money it would rather use other places.
