LaVergne Upgrades to Digital Water Meters; Some Residents Overbilled in Transition

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

LAVERGNE- The city of LaVergne is updating its old water meter readers with new "smart meters". The automated meters are being installed in phases. A city spokeswoman claims the $500,000 upgrade will pay for itself over the next year. City workers will now be able to conduct readings electronically from their cars and do about a week worth of readings all in one day. Zane Carroll doesn't mind the upgrade but believes he may be part of a "technical glitch". During the swap-out he claims he was billed $322. Carroll's average bill is only about $80. The city admits it is a rare mistake that happened during the transition. Thursday the city reimbursed Carroll and encourages anyone with similar problems to come forward and address any potential billing problems.
