NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CNN)-- It turns out the data security breach at Target stores was bigger than expected. Instead of 40 million people's information believed to be compromised, Target announced the number is now 70 million.

Names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail's are among the data which was stolen from customer's credit and debit cards.

Target will try to contact customers who have emails on file with the store to notify them of the breach. They also warn against potential scams, noting they will not ask customers for personal information and not to respond to any e-mails claiming to be from Target which ask otherwise.

Target is offering 1-year of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to customers who shopped in U.S. stores. Customers also won't be liable for any fraudulent charges.

Those who shopped at Target between November 27th-December 15th have been advised to get new account and PIN numbers from experts.
