'Polar vortex' to blast frigid air over much of US

QUINCY, Massachusetts - Tonight people along the East Coast are dealing with both snow and brutal temperatures. FOX's Molly Line shows us what they are up against. In New York City, more than 8" of snowfall making commuting difficult for many workers. Parts of upstate New York reporting 18" of snowfall, along with frigid temps that reportedly caused a 71 year old woman to freeze to death. New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio dealing with his first snowstorm, both personally and professionally, since his inauguration New Year's Day. In Connecticut, more than 200 accidents being reported. The state's Governor urging folks to check in on their neighbors among frigid temps, enough to cause frostbite in about 30 minutes or less.

In Pennsylvania, Eagles fans doing their part to shovel snow at Lincoln Financial Field. The storm leaving behind as much as 8" in parts of the state. The winter storm dumping nearly 2ft. of snow north of Boston. Airlines also being forced to cancel thousands of flights nationwide, including at Boston's Logan Airport. The city itself hit with more than 13" of snow.

Temperatures in the Northeast are expected to rise above freezing over the weekend, before the arrival of another blast of frigid air.
