NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The city of Oak Hill will have to come up with a new plan to make up an estimated one million dollar budget shortfall. City commissioners thought allowing commercial development near Franklin Road and Old Hickory Boulevard was the answer to generating new tax dollars. When residents heard about re-zoning the land for commercial use they quickly worked to put a stop to it. Homeowners say development in the area would change feel of their residential property and create additional traffic congestion. Thursday night angry residents showed up in force at the commission meeting and city officials wasted no time voting to killing the proposal they had quietly approved just last month. Oak Hill Mayor Austin McMullen says shrinking revenues will cost the city two thirds of its operating budget.
