Nashville, Tenn--It may soon get easier to buy beer in Nashville.

Tuesday night Metro Council approved the first of three votes to change the time when markets and grocers can sell beer on Sunday from noon to 10 AM.

Metro Council Member Buddy Baker proposed the bill that would make the change.

He says it only makes sense considering restaurants and bars can sell beer at 10 AM on Sunday.

"Everybody should be playing on the same playing field.  Why hold it against the grocery stores and markets," said Baker.

Chad Ayesh is among those who support the change.

Ayesh owns three Z-Marts in Nashville and he says he often has to make customers wait for beer on Sunday.

"We get sometimes 30 to 40 customers at a time. They be waiting outside and in the front of the counter," said Ayesh.

It's legal to sell beer in markets at 6 AM Monday through Saturday.
