NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A Davidson County woman uses her perfume to fend off her armed attacker who has a history of violence.

Billy Wayne McCormick Sr., 53, pulled a box cutter on a woman Tuesday after she pushed him for allegedly using a racial slur, according to the Metro Police report. A passerby called police when he saw the suspect hitting the victim with a stick.

McCormick reportedly told the woman that "he was going to cut her like a man" and went toward her with an extended blade, which was corroborated by the witness. The victim sprayed the suspect with perfume and he ran away.

Police later located and arrested McCormick. They say he has a history of assaulting others with bladed weapons.

McCormick is in the Davidson County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond is $20,000.
