Nelson Mandela, South Africa's peacemaker, dies

JOHANNESBURG - Tonight, the man who changed the face of South Africa and fought for civil rights around the world is dead. Nelson Mandela passed away today at the age of 95. Shannon Travis shows us Mandela's journey from accused terrorist to beacon of hope. A moment watched around the world as the President of South Africa delivered the sad news. Nelson Mandela died Thursday at the age of 95. The announcement came just before midnight in South Africa. Shortly after, President Obama offered his condolences. Mandela spent decades fighting apartheid in his native South Africa. He served as his country's first black President. Reaction has come from around the globe from world leaders.

From people transformed by Mandela's lessons, the legend and the leadership of the former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Mandela's last major public appearance came in 2010 when South Africa hosted the Soccer World Cup.
