Holidays Even Harder for Families of Murder Victims Still Struggling to Find Closure

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It's a happy time of year for most, but the holidays can hit home hard, especially for those who've lost a loved one.

It can be even harder for the families of murder victims still struggling to find closure. Tonight, those families are leaning on each other for support. It's the 19th Annual "Season to Remember". The tree decorating ceremony is giving families the chance to make sure their loved ones are not forgotten. A little girl who will never know her Uncle Tevin. A mother who is still coming to grips with her son's murder.

Pictures are as close as they can get to him now.

19 year old Tevin Scruggs was gunned down by a stranger in 2011 in what police call a case of mistaken identity. Over the last 3 years, the pain the family carries with them gets even more difficult this time of year.

They're not alone. Families dealing with that same loss are able to find a way to remember their loved ones. They're decorating ornaments to go on the "Tree of Tears" in a special ceremony. These families finding comfort in their loss through the spirit of Christmas. The public is invited to join these families as they hang the ornaments honoring their loved ones. The ceremony starts at 5:45pm Thursday night at the Children's Garden in Centennial Park.
