TDOT Urges Drivers to Keep an Eye on Road Conditions

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Any time ice or sleet is in the forecast, drivers have to take precautions. Black ice and slick roads are a recipe for trouble. That's why TDOT is urging drivers to keep an eye on road conditions. Ice is one of the most challenging conditions for drivers because it's difficult to get traction and maintain control of your vehicle. TDOT says because of the way the weather is moving in, there is little they can do to treat the roads ahead of the storm. They can't start coating the roads with brine, which is a mixture of salt and water, because the rain will simply wash it away. TDOT does have crews stationed throughout Middle Tennessee, especially in the Northwestern counties. They are ready to react, depending on what Mother Nature does.
