Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

SANTA FE, Tenn, - A Good Samaritan put aside his own safety to save a life on Christmas Eve.

Ahren Longo, 35 was driving to work on Raleigh Beard Road Tuesday morning when he saw a car on fire.

He stopped and found the unconscious driver still inside.

Longo pulled the driver, Robert Merritt Jr. out of moments before the flames engulfed the car, fire officials said.

First responders are calling him a hero, but Longo says he's just a guy who tried to do the right thing.

People have been calling me a hero today but everybody has a chance to be a hero in one way shape or form every single day, Longo said.  You could be a hero to your kid, you could be a hero to your wife you could be a hero to a kid down the street.  Everybody has the opportunity for greatness every day.

The driver of the car is in critical condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
