Patients Need Blood Transfusions, This Time of Year Supply can Get Dangerously Low

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A hospital room is not where anyone wants to spend the holidays, but many families will this Christmas. Some of those patients need blood transfusions, but this time of year the supply can get dangerously low. That's why we're inviting you to be a part of FOX17's Holiday Heroes Blood Drive today. It's a unique encounter at the American Red Cross. Deanna Lynette is living with Sickle Cell Anemia. She's getting the chance to thank blood donors who she relies on to fight her disease. Doctors told Deanna she wouldn't live to see her 21st birthday. She's 30 now, and actively works with the Red Cross to recruit new blood donors.

During the holidays, blood supplies get low. It's the reason FOX17 is teaming up with the Red Cross for the Holiday Heroes Blood Drive.

Every blood donation that comes in can save up to 3 lives. It's something people like Deanna aren't taking for granted. Those who give blood can leave there knowing they've made a difference.

Less than an hour out of your day can help give the gift of life to someone who really needs it. We hope you'll stop by and see us today at the FOX17 Holiday Heroes Blood Drive. You can give blood from 9:15am-6:15pm Tuesday night at the American Red Cross off Charlotte Avenue.
