Batkid Saves The Day

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Batkid is fighting crime on the mean streets of San Francisco.

Television news footage showed 5-year-old Miles Scott, aka Batkid, leaving the city's Union Square in one of two Batmobiles on Friday morning. The vehicles two black Lamborghinis with Batman decals were surrounded by media and onlookers.

The drive through city streets is part of a day of events organized by the Make-A-Wish Foundation to fulfill Miles' wish to be Batkid. Miles was diagnosed with leukemia and is in remission.

The Lamborghinis were escorted by police, who also blocked off roads. Batkid's first caper was rescuing a damsel in distress from cable car tracks. He was also scheduled to capture the Riddler as he robs a downtown bank and receive a key to the city from Mayor Ed Lee.

UPDATE: The San Francisco Chronicle produced a special Gotham City Chronicle edition of the newspaper in honor of Miles on Friday. About 1,000 copies were distributed in SF's Union Square, and BatKid will also be featured on a special front page in Saturday's paper, the Chronicle announced.
