NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A man is in jail this morning for trying to pass counterfeit $100 bills in north Nashville.

Cedric Hamilton, 47, tried to pay for a sandwich at Chicago Style Gyros at 3221 Dickerson Pike with the bill and tried to make change with another, according to Metro Police. Hamilton denied having knowledge of the counterfeit money and said he got the bill from his employer.

The counterfeit bills were discovered because the shadow marks when held to the light were that of Abraham Lincoln, when it should be Benjamin Franklin.

Booked in the Davidson County Jail just before 11 p.m. Wednesday on criminal simulation charges, Hamilton has a $20,000 bond.
