Deadly Shooting in Spring Hill - Eric Alvarez

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

SPRING HILL, Tenn.-- Wednesday morning, the normally quiet neighborhood of Cherry Grove became anything but.

It was quite shocking to come out and see crime scene tape around the house next door," Chris Stammen said.

Stammen lives on Fremantle Circle, in the subdivision that sits less than a mile away from Summit High School.

Word quickly spread from home to home, that her next door neighbors 63-year-old Robert Land and his 60-year-old wife Sue, were involved in a deadly shooting.

"She and bob were super nice people, Stammen said.  They loved each other.  They adored each other.  They never did anything separate so it's quite shocking that this happened.

Police say they received a frantic 911 call at 4:17 a.m. from a woman calling for help.  When they arrived at the address, they discovered a gruesome scene.

The male subject had gunshot wounds to the body and he is now determined to be deceased," said Lt. Justin Whitwell of Spring Hill Police.

First responders also found Sue Land  inside the home.  She was taken via LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.

We don't usually have these type of incidences in Spring Hill, Whitwell said.  This is a fairly quiet community and for something like this to happen at 4:17 in the morning is unusual.

Police say they found a gun inside the home but say it's too soon to tell if it's the one involved in the shooting.

Investigators found no signs of a break in, but would not elaborate on how they believe the shooting happened.

Investigators say they've had no reason to extend the investigation outside of the house, but added neighbors have no reason to fear of a gunman on the loose, adding to the mystery surrounding the Cherry Grove neighborhood and Mr. and Mrs. Land who'd lived there for years.

They've been married probably 30-plus years  and they're the most loving adorable people Ive ever met, Stammen said.  Its shocking.

Robert Land's body was taken to the medical examiner for autopsy.
