New Mexico State Police are investigating a shooting and the response by their officers after a Memphis mother's minivan was shot at by police.

Oriana Ferrell was pulled over for driving 71 mph in a 55 mph zone. Inside her minivan were children who ranged from age six to eighteen. After Arguing with the officer, he instructs her to turn off the car as he walks back to the police cruiser.

Ferrell instead pulls away and is promptly pulled over once again by the same officer. After threatening to pull her out of the car if she doesn't get out, she finally steps out. When he asks her to turn around, her 14-year-old son gets out to defend his mother, getting into a scuffle with the officer. When he returns to the car after a taser is pointed at him, backup arrives.

One officer smashes the window trying to get the teen out as the mother jumps back in and drives away. A third officer fires shots at the van. It's not until she leads police on a chase that she is finally pulled over and arrested. Police found two marijuana pipes in the car at the time of arrest.

The mother says she was on an educational trip to see the Rio Grande.
