Greenbrier Mayor Arrested; Accused of Stealing from Children's Charity-Meagan O'Halloran

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

GREENBRIER-Greenbrier Mayor and Fire chief Billy Wilson is facing some major legal problems. Mayor Wilson is accused of stealing from his own non-profit organization that helps kids and needy families. Mayor Wilson was booked into the Robertson County Jail and charged with official misconduct and theft. The TBI launched the investigation into the case earlier this month after it was requested by the District Attorney General. Mayor Wilson is accused of stealing approximately $60,000 from the Greenridge Toys for Tots charity over the last eight years. Wilson founded the charity eighteen years ago
and has since turned the non-profit over to the Greenridge Civitans. The TBI also announced Monday it would be requesting a city audit. The TBI says it has information that leads them to believe there may be missing funds from the city as well.

Kristin Helm, Public Information Officer for the TBI, says the agency is not considering anyone else as a suspect in this case. "At this time, we don't have any indication to believe that anyone else was taking money".

FOX 17 spoke with Mayor Wilson earlier this month. Wilson said he was eager to speak out about the investigation but declined to comment at the advice of his lawyer.
