Shooting Range Offers Virtual Training - John Dunn

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

BRENTWOOD, TN - A new business is proving you don't need bullets to practice your shooting skills. There's no reason to worry about an ammo shortage here. QuickDraw is a brand new business in Brentwood.

The guns are real, but the bullets are not. QuickDraw is a shooting range like none other in Tennessee. Customers go inside one of three shooting rooms where they are shown life-like scenarios. You'll find terrorists on an airplane, or gunmen in a mall. You must decide shoot, or don't shoot. "It's realistic. You're in here, you get involved, and you get into it, and it just seems like you're there," says owner David Lafferty.

Over the last year, FOX 17 News has reported on a shortage in ammunition. At QuickDraw the "virtual" rounds are supplied by compressed carbon dioxide which help provide recoil. "If you are just a shooter, you can come and shoot targets, and save your bullets," says Lafferty.

At QuickDraw you can choose your weapon.  Either a handgun, a shotgun, or a M-16.

David Lafferty started the business after talking with a police officer about virtual training. Large law enforcement agencies and the military already use the simulators. Lafferty hopes smaller police departments will use has facility for training. "These machines are expensive and rather than buying one, they can come and use this one at any time," says Lafferty.

David Lafferty hopes customers will come to his Brentwood location and find a unique way to practice shooting, where virtual bullets are unlimited.
There 380 different scenarios you can use at QuickDraw, including one where you shoot zombies. You can find them at 1720 General George Patton Drive in the Cool Springs area.
