Weather Alert

CODE YELLOW: Heavy Rains Expected Overnight

A few showers could pop-up around the mid-state this afternoon, but our Microcast model shows the heaviest rain to arrive in Nashville around 3am. Areas to the west of the city will see it sooner and areas to the east will see it later.  Some storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy pockets of rain.  A few left-over showers could hang around as late as Friday night, so area high school football games might be wet.

Paying for Sex Change

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

University of Illinois--

Sparking debate this morning, the University of Illinois will now pay for sex-change surgery under student health insurance.

The university will add gender confirmation surgery to student health insurance to let transgender students undergo sexual reassignment surgery.

The change boosts current health insurance by 15%, which means $2 more for undergrads and $3 for graduate students.

But when it comes to being yourself, some students say the cost doesn't matter.

The increase, which won't happen until the fall will only impact students who opt in to the university's optional health plan.

Transgender students say having the medical care available to them will change their lives for the better.
