SALUDA, N.C. -- Sparking debate this morning, a city in North Carolina is divided after leaders take down a man's sign meant to make veterans feel at home.

The city didn't have anything but a pipe for a flagpole, so doc bought a nice flagpole and made this sign to show his patriotism. It proudly declares Saluda as a veteran friendly city.

He thought no one would disagree when it was posted along Highway 176, but city leaders say the sign is not the right size and he did not apply for a permit.

The city says it can't make an exception for any sign, leaving the community divided.

The city's Facebook page now has people talking about boycotting business who don't support the sign. There's also a petition to give the veteran-friendly words a place in the city.
