Boy Faces Expulsion Over Drawing

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

An 8-year-old boy in Arizona faced expulsion from school because of his artwork.

The boy's parents met with the headmaster of the "Scottsdale Country Day School" after the headmaster told them the pictures their son drew of a ninja and soldier were grounds for expulsion because it depicted weapons.

The headmaster also highlighted words from the boy's journal that he found violent and unacceptable.

This is one example the boy wrote about escaping a killer-zombie: "I'd open the window - but, stand back quickly. Boobytrapped. Shoot the gadget - a rope gun - I'd swing across without getting hit."

The boy's dad said the headmaster said he could not guarantee other student's safety with the boy still in class, even though the boy has no history of violence. So, the boy's parents decided to pull him out of that school.

The little boy's dad says the inspiration for his drawing came from his Halloween costume.
