Bad Dog Groomers

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

Protecting your pets this morning, a heartbreaking story about a dog owner forced to dip into his savings account, because of his groomer's mistake.

His eight-year-old pup Sissy is still recovering, but she's pretty tough. Back in July, Charles Branham took Sissy to his regular groomer.

But during that appointment, while the dog was on the table. she went to answer the phone and left sissy alone with no safety equipment.

Charles thinks sissy fell. He says the groomer apologized, but that was it. For several weeks, he says he had no idea how much pain she was really in. It turns out, her paw was shattered and she had to have multiple surgeries. As the bills went up, Charles had to cash in $3,4000 to save her.

The groomer still hasn't offered to pay the bill.  Charles says it hurts to know Sissy will always walk with a limp for something that could have easily been prevented and should never have happened.

So what can you do to protect yourself?  Remember anyone can be a groomer. Some shops don't require a certain amount of training before letting an employee groom on their own.

Talk with your vet. They can walk you through proper grooming techniques, so you don't have to depend on a groomer you don't trust or are not familiar with.

Or ask to stau with your dog the whole time, so you're sure your pup is in the hands of someone you trust.
