We are now down to the top 42 on American Idol! The contestants were put into groups and performed songs from the 50's and 60's on a Vegas stage.

Murfreesboro's Colton Dixon was in one of the first groups to take the stage. The judges really liked his group, saying they really enjoyed their harmonies .
Colton was not sent home and did make it on to the next round of the competition.

Colton's little sister Schyler Dixon also performed on day one. She sang "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" with two other young ladies. Steven Tyler said that her vocals stood out amongst the three and they advanced her in the competition, or so we thought! There was a major twist during the Vegas round. The judges had too many people make it through from day one so they had to cut some of the people that they originally advanced. One of those was Schyler. She now finds her self in the same place as she was last year. She is heading home, but cheering on her big brother as he advances in the competition.

We also learned that Nashville's Bailee Brown advanced on to the Top 42 as well.
