Meth Makes a Comeback-John Dunn
A deadly drug is making a big time come back in Tennessee, and the latest case is in Maury County.
Authorities arrested three people during a meth lab bust and they say two small children were found inside the home.
The sign on the door warns people to stay out.
Neighbors had no idea what officers claim was going on next door.
"I was surprised because he has no indication of being that type of person," says neighbor Les Hay.
"And lo and behold we found two meth labs," says Maury County Sheriff Enoch George.
Larry Simms and Bobby Johnson now find themselves in jailhouse jumpsuits. They are the latest to be charged in a resurgent meth problem.
"This is poison. I tell people whenever I talk to them about it, that it's unbelievable that they're putting poison in their bodies, but they continue to do it," says Sheriff George.
Also charged in the case is Jessica Jeter.
Authorities say her two small children, ages four and 19 months, were in the home when officers arrived.
Officer Shawn Taylor works undercover investigations with the Judicial Drug Task Force.
"These parents are putting their child in danger to be able to make a quick buck or to be able to have a quick high," says Officer Taylor.
Meth Busts are on the rise in Tennessee despite laws that were supposed to make it harder to buy pseudoephedrine, one of its key ingredients.
"We have been working more with cases is the last year or so, and it looks like it is on the incline," says Officer Taylor.
Meth makers have found an easier way to manufacture their drug, inside a plastic bottle, it's known as "Shake and Bake.”
"They're making it in a different process, smaller amount at a time, but yet it's still the same dangerous drug," says Sheriff George.
Maury County officers say meth is keeping them busy, but they hope to reduce the problem one arrest at a time.
All three suspects in this case remain in the Maury County jail.
Meanwhile, the two children who were found in the home have been placed with relatives. Meth Makes a Comeback-John Dunn
