Tennessee Works With Soldiers To Understand Stress-Erika Lathon
The mass shooting at Ft. Hood is focusing new attention on mental health training for soldiers.
It's something the State of Tennessee is already working on.
Behavioral health experts spent a day and a half with the National Guard in Smyrna, learning what's it like to be a soldier.
They're hearing first hand about the stress of heading into combat and returning home.
It's all designed to give those offering mental health counseling a better understanding of soldiers and to help remove the stigma associated with getting help.
The immersion training program is pretty unique, its only being done in Tennessee.
Officials say its something other states are interested in.Tennessee Works With Soldiers To Understand Stress-Erika Lathon
