Nashville Firefighters Warn to be Cautious in Heating Your Home
Colder temperatures may give you a reason to fire up the chimney for the first time in months, but before you strike a match, Nashville firefighters have a warning that could save your home, and even your life.
Fox17's Justin Mcfarland joins us live in West Nashville with more on this story.
It happens every year.
People want to use their fireplace without taking the proper precautions, and the results can be devastating.
There was a fire Tuesday night in North Nashville.
Fire investigators say it started in the chimney.
Fortunately, no one was hurt and the damage was minimal.
The Nashville Firefighters Association says they can be avoided by a simple cleaning that many people ignore.
Chimney fires can be among the most dangerous because they can burn longer without being noticed.
"A lot of times the problems with the chimney fires is that flu or something may have broken on the inside and the fire may go unnoticed for a long time because it's burning on the inside in between the walls and the fire smoke is going out with the flu itself and that creates a problem," says Gary Moore with the Nashville Firefighters Association.
A chimney cleaning normally costs around $100 to $150 dollars.Nashville Firefighters Warn to be Cautious in Heating Your Home
