DUI Related Deaths a Growing Concern in Nashville
In the last 10 days there have been at least three cases of alleged DUI-related deaths across Metro Nashville, the latest involving a three year old boy.
So far this year Metro Police have arrested more than 3100 alleged drunk drivers in Davidson County.
That's up 11 percent over this time last year.
This deadly trend began on October 22nd on I-40.
44-year old Eddy Mccreery was killed in a crash.
Police believe the woman driving the car that hit Mccreery was driving drunk.
Then, three days later, 45-year old Malindy Raymer was killed when a driver wrecked into the car she was riding in on I-24.
Then, this past Saturday afternoon, three year old Darius Buchanon was killed when the car he was riding in was struck.
Police say 23-year old Percy Thompson was driving drunk when he lost control of a Lexus.
Police say Thompson has been charged with 59 crimes over the last eight years.
The Davidson County Sheriff's Department says Thompson had just bailed out of jail the night before.
"This is a guy who over the years has continued to make himself known to police," said Nashville Metro Public Information Officer Don Aaron, "It's offense, after offense, after offense. To saturday perhaps being the ultimate offense, the death of a three year old child."
Thompson is now back in jail on a $115,000 bond.
