Authorities Warn Sex Offenders on Halloween - Cindy Carter
Thousands spend the Halloween holiday trick or treating across Murfreesboro. Amber Wyne brought her 3-year old "Ironman" out for a big, spooky night on the town. "It's a family atmosphere.. so of course we're all dressed up tonight and doing a family trick or treating and we really safe."
However, authorities say Wyne and many other parents don't realize there are more than 300-registered sexual offenders in the Murfreesboro area.
The state Board of Probation and Parole is making sure unsuspecting ghouls and goblins don't trick or treat at the wrong house. Officer John Parker says, "We want to make sure there are no sex offenders out and about when the children are out. The children need to be able to get out and enjoy the holiday without being worried about who's going to be out preying on them."
Parker and other officers went door to door Halloween making sure registered sex offenders are following a special set of rules. Parker says, They sent a letter to all sexual offenders currently on parole or probation outlining their Halloween restrictions.
This includes a 5-p-m curfew, no Halloween decorations, they can't welcome trick or treaters nor can they go trick or treating or wear costumes. Parker says, "We had them sign that 3 weeks ago. so, they've known well in advance what they've got to do and what the restrictions are."
