WBFF Fox 45 :: EXCLUSIVE: Lindsey Lowe Case May Have Been a Few Jurors Away from a Hung Jury - Sky Arnold
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - It took jurors only 2 hours of deliberations to convict Lindsey Lowe of 1st degree murder.

Mark Scarborough said that's only because he wasn't a part of the discussions.

"I felt like the jury rushed to a decision," said Scarborough.

Scarborough was the 3rd alternate juror.

He listened to all of the testimony in the 5 day trial and if three other jurors had been excused or if he'd been picked 3 seats earlier, he would've been part of the deliberations.

Scarborough doesn't believe Lindsey Lowe is guilty of the premeditation that's necessary for a 1st degree murder conviction.

"I think she had a mental illness," said Scarborough. "Premeditation, I don't think she ever I don't think she ever completed the thought know what I mean."

Instead the alternate juror feels Lowe should have been convicted of a lesser offense like 2nd degree murder or maybe a charge lower than that.

Fox 17 News spoke to juror Ted Jones shortly after the verdict.

He said there was some initial hesitation from some jurors to give Lowe the toughest conviction but it didn't last.

"They weighed our opinions as well as theirs and came to the same conclusion," said Jones.

Scarborough remains convinced that wouldn't be the case with him and he believes he may have forced a hung jury if he was part of the deliberations.

"I don't think the punishment fits the crime," said Scarborough. "You hate to see the whole thing begin in another process but that was not the right outcome."

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).

Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.

MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.

CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
