WBFF Fox 45 :: March of Dimes Kicks Off
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The March of Dimes and area Noshville restaurants helped everyone get a head start on the St. Patrick's Day celebrations Friday morning. "Breakfast for Babies" kicked off, and a little luck o' the Irish and all things green is helping save newborns fighting for their lives. The griddles are going green, and so is everyone else at the Noshville restaurants around town Friday. Not just because it's getting closer to St. Patrick's Day, but because it's the annual "Breakfast for Babies". Friday's event helps kids like Hawkins. Hawkins was born 2.5 months early, and it's hard to believe when he was born, he weighed about as much as 3 ketchup bottles. Hawkins is a healthy 6 year old now. He's the face of the March of Dimes this year, helping raise money for other babies who were born prematurely like he was.

"It's so funny because St. Patrick's Day was Hawkins' due date," says Hawkins' mother Anna Pate. "He was born in early January, of course, so St. Patrick's Day is always a holiday we love to celebrate."

Celebrate they did! Customers dressed in green and got to pick from a very festive Dr. Seuss inspired menu of green eggs and shamrock ham, but that's not all.

"They can make anything green actually," says March of Dimes' Phil Toothman.

"It started with green eggs and ham, but then it became oatmeal, green pancakes, green breakfast bowls, and before the night's over, there may be some green beer too," says Noshville Restaurant's Jay Young.

Don't forget the most important green, but Hawkins has already got that covered. Half of today's breakfast sales from all 3 Noshville restaurants will go directly to the local chapter of the March of Dimes.March of Dimes Kicks Off "Breakfast for Babies" - Meagan O'Halloran

Solar panels that obscure school might be moved
May 24, 2013 13:13 GMT

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A wall of solar panels in front of a Surgoinsville school might be moved out back.

The panels are part of an ambitious project under which solar collection panels have been installed at 20 Hawkins County school facilities to cut utility costs and sell back power to TVA.

But the Kingsport Times-News (http://bit.ly/18burcf ) reported the wall of panels at Surgoinsville Middle School has some people worried about school security and others upset at what they see as an eyesore.

The panels are 7 feet high and stretch the length of a football field. They obscure viewing the school.

At a school board work session Thursday, board members talked about moving the array. It can't be voted on until the regular board meeting on June 4.
