WBFF Fox 45 :: UPDATE: Child Death Investigation
An arrest has been made in the death of a toddler in Dickson. Late Thursday afternoon the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested Edward Benesch on charges of reckless homicide and child abuse. Benesch is thought to be the boyfriend of the toddler’s mother, Jill Smith.

Benesch told the aunt he fell on baby, Somara Smith, before bringing her to the house a Brookside Drive.

The toddler’s mother, Jill Smith, was in the Dickson County Jail at the time facing charges of failing to pay child support.

The toddler’s father, Edward Mays, has been in jail since September on numerous charges including aggravated burglary, aggravated domestic.

Family members tell Fox 17 News those charges do not relate to Smith but rather to someone else. They also say Mays has expressed concerned about the welfare of his four children including Samara who were in the custody of Smith's family. Benesch, and neighbors also looked after the children while she was in jail.

Mays allegedly contacted the Department of Children's Services about these concerns.

DCS confirmed to Fox 17 News it is conducting an investigation and has confirmed all of Smith's children are in safe care tonight.

Benesch faces a $75,000 bond.UPDATE: Child Death Investigation

LOUISVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Blount (blunt) County sheriff's office says preliminary results of autopsies on the bodies of a couple found dead in their home in Louisville (LEW'-ihs-vil) show their deaths are consistent with murder-suicide.

Marian O'Briant said in an email that it appears 54-year-old Steven Adkins shot 53-year-old Rebecca Adkins, then shot himself.

O'Briant said a family member found the bodies Sunday night. It wasn't clear how long they had been dead.
