WBFF Fox 45 :: Report: Todd lived rent-free in lobbyist's house
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A newspaper is reporting that state Rep. Curry Todd lived rent-free in the Nashville home of a prominent lobbyist for an undisclosed amount of time in 2011.
The Tennesseean said Friday that Todd acknowledged he stayed in the home but would not clarify how long he lived there.
State ethics law forbids lobbyists from providing gifts, including housing, to lawmakers.
The lobbyist, Chuck Welch, regularly worked on legislative issues that passed through the House State and Local Government Committee, which the Todd chaired until he was removed in late 2011.
The Collierville Republican was arrested in October 2011 after failing a roadside sobriety test. A loaded .38-caliber gun was found stuffed between the driver's seat and center console.
He pleaded guilty in January to drunken driving and gun charges.
Welch did not respond to the newspaper's request for comment.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
