NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Mexican woman is waiting on a federal judge in Nashville to determine whether her children, who were born and live in Tennessee, should be returned to her care in Mexico after claiming that their father abducted them.
The Tennessean reports Nora Lizeth Saavedra Aranda of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, filed a petition against her ex-husband, Rosendo Elizondo Serna, that said he abducted their daughters during a visit to his home in Franklin in 2010.
The girls were born in Franklin, but the family moved back to Mexico in 2003. Aranda is the primary caregiver of the children, but Serna argued in court documents his children are at risk in Mexico because of an attempted sexual assault that occurred against one of the girls in Mexico.

TBI: Women more likely family violence victims

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A new study of domestic violence in Tennessee last year found women were nearly two times more likely to be victimized than men and children were the victims in 16 percent of all family violence cases.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation put out a report this week analyzing crime statistics from law enforcement agencies across the state. Their findings show that nearly 15 percent of all crimes reported were domestic in nature.
The study looked at the relationships between victims and offenders as well as the influence of drugs and alcohol on family violence. The study found that more than 17 percent of family violence involves drugs or alcohol, with alcohol being the most common.
