LA VERGNE, Tenn. - The man accused of Domestic Violence and attempting to run over a La Vergne police officer is recovering Thursday night. Wednesday evening, La Vergne Police say they received a call from a woman claiming she was assaulted. When police arrive,d the suspect had already driven away from the mobile home on Sue Ellen Drive. A chase led police and the suspect back to the mobile home park. That's when officers say he tried to run them down, and they were forced to shoot at the vehicle.
"We're very happy to report that none of our officers were injured and that the victim is also okay, although our hearts do go out to any domestic violence victims," says the city of La Vergne's Kathy Tyson.
The suspect was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Police have not released the suspect's name or condition.

Courthouse in line for repairs, updates

MANCHESTER, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials in Coffee County are looking to update their historic courthouse instead of replacing the 141-year-old structure.
After all, they said the building is in pretty good shape. As far as repairs, it just needs some new paint and molding, as well as work to repair some water damage. But county maintenance director Robert Gilliam says the entire structure needs updating in order to make it last until the next century.
Gilliam and County Mayor David Pennington told the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/19ivpQ6 ) that officials have taken care to maintain the building and it hasn't had any major renovations in decades.
Historical society spokeswoman Joanna Lewis said the group is trying to come up with fundraising ideas for the project.
