WBFF Fox 45 :: National Signing Day Very Good to James Franklin and the Commodores
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It's a day that puts college football coaches on pins and needles - National Signing Day. The wait for those commitments has been torturous at times. National Signing Day was very good to James Franklin and the Commodores. For the first time in the program's history, they have a Top 20 recruiting class. The 'Dores are signing 26 players in all, 17 of which earned 4 star evaluations from national recruiting services.

"Overall, I think we've really helped ourselves in the talent perspective," says Franklin. "I think we really helped ourselves in the depth perspective. I can go through this individually, but I think by far we keep raising the bar in terms of what we're trying to do in recruiting."

One of Franklin's prized signers is Gerald Perry, a 3 star wide receiver from Whitehaven High in Memphis. This morning, he put pen to paper, signing his name on a letter of intent. Afterward, Perry made a bold prediction!

"I think the program's great," says Perry. "We're going to do a lot of new things this year. You know, Vanderbilt has never talked about going to the SEC Championship, and this year we're going to the SEC Championship. I guarantee you by next year we're going to win the National Championship."

You heard it here first! Also among the 26 member recruiting class - Perry's Whitehaven teammate Darrius Sims. He's a 5'9" defensive back with a 3 star ranking! The signing class includes 5 wide receivers, 5 defensive backs, 4 defensive linemen, 3 linebackers and 2 quarterbacks.
