The victim told police that Marcus Kirkland, 46, tried to kill him. The victim is at Vanderbilt Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Police detained Kirkland yesterday after he purchased crack cocaine on S. 5th St. from an undercover officer, and questioned him regarding the attempted murder.
Kirkland admitted to being at the crime scene with the victim smoking drugs. He said he didn't know who stabbed the victim, but that he tried to help him.
A witness says that he saw another man and Kool-Aid pull the victim down to the ground. Kirkland, he says, said, "I think I just hurt that guy."
Kirkland is being held on $237,000 bond.
