Keith Swafford now faces a felony charge of Cruelty to Animals.
He tells Fox 17 he got angry at the dog across the street Friday because "Polo" was barking all day and night. Swafford also says he's sorry for what happened. Polo's owners say the dog is doing much better.
"He's fine," says owner Tyesha Buter. "He's running, he still has a knot on his head, but the pink and red is going down off his eye."
This isn't the first time Swafford has faced trouble because of a barking dog. In the last 2 years police have responded to 2 complaints against him, including one where he was accused of threatening to shoot the dog.
"It's not just this incident that concerns officers. There's a long history of officers responding to this residence to deal with Mr. Swafford," said Murfreesboro Police Spokesperson Kyle Evans.
