WBFF Fox 45 :: Nashville Man Hopes to Build Millennium Falcon - John Dunn

December 12, 2012

It is a project that is truly out of this world.

A Nashville man wants to build a full-size Star Wars spaceship.

It is a quest to build a Millennium Falcon.

Take a step into Chris Lee's East Nashville home, and you'll quickly discover another world.

"The first time I saw it, I was like, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen," says Lee.

Since he was a 12 year old boy, Lee has loved Star Wars.

In particular, Han Solo's spaceship, the Millennium Falcon.

"It's the hot rod of the Star Wars universe. It's the muscle car that everybody wants," says Lee.

That's why Chris Lee has big plans to build a full-size replica of the Millennium Falcon.

3D computer models show a ship 114 feet long and 82 feet wide.

Inside and out, it's constructed with precise detail.

"The goal is to be able to go up the ramp, and you're in the movie.  You're in the Millennium Falcon," says Lee.

The dream is becoming reality. Construction is already underway on parts of the ship.

Chris Lee has purchased 88 acres of land in Humphreys County, where he plans to assemble the Falcon.

"Kind of imagine standing on the hill above the Falcon and seeing that line of headlights sort of like in "Field of Dreams," says Lee.

The ship would be made of steel, built on a concrete foundation, constructed by a team of Star Wars enthusiasts around the globe.

"Yeah, it's going to be a metal building more or less, that happens to be in the shape of a Millennium Falcon," says Lee.

Chris's website, fullscalefalcon.com, keeps track of the progress.

After some recent international publicity, he received more than 40,000 hits in a single day.

"But now that everybody in the world knows about it, there's no turning back, we have to do it," says Lee.

There's no question Chris Lee is a dreamer, and with this project the sky's the limit.

Even skies in galaxies far far away.

Chris Lee and his building partners hope to crowd source much of the labor for this project.

As of now there's no firm date for when the spaceship will be completed.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).

Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.

MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.

CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
