WBFF Fox 45 :: Washington Gay Marriage Law Signed by Governor
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- Gov. Chris Gregoire has signed into law a measure that legalizes same-sex marriage in Washington state, which now joins several other states that allow gay and lesbian couples to wed.
Gregoire and Secretary of State Sam Reed certified the election on Wednesday afternoon, joined by couples who plan to wed. The law doesn't take effect until Thursday, when gay and lesbian couples can start picking up their wedding certificates and licenses at county auditors' offices. King and Thurston Counties will open the earliest of any of the counties, at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
Because the state has a three-day waiting period, the earliest that weddings can take place is Sunday.
Last month, 54 percent of voters approved Referendum 74, which had asked for people to approve or reject the state law legalizing same-sex marriage that legislators passed earlier this year. That law was signed by Gregoire in February but was put on hold pending the outcome of the election.Washington Gay Marriage Law Signed by Governor

Nashville judge permanently suspends guardian
May 22, 2013 23:17 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Nashville judge has permanently suspended the public guardian of Davidson County while citing "significant concerns" that she charged excessive fees to the elderly and disabled people she is supposed to protect.

The Tennessean (http://goo.gl/1P5gG ) is reporting that Probate Judge Randy Kennedy terminated public guardian Jeanan Mills Stuart following questions over her billing practices.

As public guardian, Stuart was responsible for making legal, medical and financial decisions for incapacitated people who had no family or friends willing or able to make decisions for them. The paper's revelations showed how Stuart charged those in her care legal rates of $200 to $225 an hour to perform tasks such as shopping or helping them move to an assisted living facility.

Stuart, who has resigned, did not respond to a call seeking comment.
