WBFF Fox 45 :: Alabama among States Where People are Petitioning the U.S. Government to Secede from the Country
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.– There is a new campaign coming in response to the results of this year’s presidential election.

It’s a movement by the residents of at least 15 states, including Alabama, where people have petitioned the government to secede from the United State of America.

It’s something the president would have to sign off on, so it seems to be an unlikely scenario.

But, thousands of people have signed the online petitions at the website of the White House. You can see it for yourself by clicking here.

Here’s the written language that appears on the site.

It states the petitioners are “..requesting the Obama administration peacefully grant the state of Alabama to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own new government.”

The petitioners cite the Declaration of Independence, writing in part, “..they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.” “…governments are instituted among men deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, *that* whenever any form of government becomes destructive.”

Residents of Alabama created the petition on November 9th, 2012.

As of Monday morning, 4,261 people had signed the petition for Alabama to secede.

Supporters of the move have 30 days to garner 25,000 signatures for it to come to the attention and action of the president.

Other states where residents are asking to be allowed to secede include Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Colorado, Montana, and Oregon.

So, on this Veterans Day, observed, it’s a right we have as Americans and we thank our veterans for preserving it.

Houston brother will be his own attorney in court
June 18, 2013 13:02 GMT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Roane County man will face federal gun violation charges next month without an attorney.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/17VlXpM ) reported Rocky Joe Houston will represent himself on a charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

The charge came after Houston earlier represented himself in state court on charges stemming from a police chase. He was convicted of evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Houston and his brother, Leon Houston, were tried, but not convicted, in the 2006 shooting deaths of a Roane County deputy and his ride-along companion.

In federal court, Rocky Joe Houston is claiming the officer who charged him with the felony had no legal authority.
