"There was smoke and everything when I opened the door," says Sherrill. "It was too much smoke to go in and then it just went up."
Officials suspect the fire was sparked by a wood burning stove.
"I'll get through it as long as I have my kids, that's the most important thing to me," says Sherill. "My family, they'll support me and everything, too."
The days ahead will be difficult for this single mother of 2. Firefighters say it's a reminder to check your heating source before you tackle the winter chill.
"It's important before you light it for the first time in the cool weather to have it inspected," says Watertown Fire Department Lt. Corpus. "Make sure everything is in tact from the stove all the way through the exit of the house up through the roof."
"I just think God me and the kids wasn't in there," says Sherrill.
Sherrill is a cafeteria worker at Watertown Elementary School where her children attend school. She says she had a small amount of insurance and will be staying with family until she can get back on her feet.

May 22, 2013 13:32 GMT
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Washington County authorities say a man faked a marriage certificate so he could visit a woman held in the Johnson City Detention Facility.
The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/14QBr9L ) reports investigators discovered the ruse after the May 14 visit by 32-year-old Robert S. Hicks of Elizabethton. Hicks was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal simulation. He was jailed at the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond, pending a court appearance Wednesday.
