It's now certified gold in the top ten on country music charts and to date is Mcgraw's fastest rising single.
Big things for the country star, but no one could be more excited about the songs success than Chris Janson.
Janson is one of four writers. Himself, Danny Myrick and the guys from the country duo Lo Cash Cowboys.
that summer day in 2011 , all four had ever written together, in fact,
the writing session came about because Janson double booked himself!
got a text from Myrick and he said are we on today, I thought oh crap
and I was like sure man but here is the deal I'm writing with Lo Cash
today do you know each other, and visa versa hit them up, everyone knew
each other got in a room and decided we would write together" says
Not only did the session come about unexpectedly, the title came out of no where before they even sat down to write.
pulled up and Preston was like I love that truck and I was like, well
the alternate to truck yea. I was filthy sailor mouth that day and I
just said it and he said whoa whoa whoa how about truck yeah" explains
Janson said the lyrics started flowing and that's when
Chris came up with the hook, "It was a true co-write everyone added own
flavor and spice".
After that the song came together quickly,
"It just came about it was like rapid fire, it was like okay I'll say
this, Danny say this, preston this, chris say this. Everyone spitting
out lines. It happened fast, we wrote the song in an hour" says Janson.
One of the best parts of the song - the lyrics are true life scenarios.
Wayne pumping on my ipod that is what happens to me when with my step
son, that is what he's listening to in tahoe, that is what i'm listening
to" says Janson.
And the line about chillin in the back room ,
Janson says a lot of Nashville artists can relate to that, especially
him since he got his start on one of broadways most famous honky tonks.
"The backroom at tootsies is famous legendary. So chilling in the back
room, hanging with my whole crew, sippin on a cold brew hey now .. that
came from a true place" says Janson.
They left thinking Lo Cash
would cut the song as their next single, but little did they know, a
joke one of them made during the co-write would come true!
"I said this is gonna be great and Preston said we aren't giving this to anyone....unless it's Tim McGraw" laughs Janson.
the next day a demo was done. Janson hesitantly played it for his wife,
who brought it to the attention of someone in Mcgraws camp and Janson's
publishing company. Within days, the demo was pitched to McGraw and
that nex week Janson got the call that mcgraw cut their song, "It was
such a wow thing" he says.
Pretty special for a hard working songwriter -who has never even had a cut, until now.
"I would have taken a cut on anyone but thank Lord it happened and on Tim McGraw"
Janson has his own solo project coming out in January. Visit www.chrisjanson.com for all the details!
