Voters in the 20th State Senate District received a controversial flier in their mailbox.
It shows a woman with possibly a black eye holding a child.
Beside her is the word "beating" and a picture of Republican candidate Steve Dickerson.
State Party Chair Chris Devaney says the mailer is pure trash.
"I think Phillip North should ask the Democratic Party to stop that advertising on his behalf. Philip North should be ashamed," said Devaney.
North is the Democrat in the race running against Dickerson.
The State Democratic Party produced the mailer.
Chair Chip Forrester says the goal wasn't to portray Dickerson as violent but rather to attack his positions on education and support for Pro-Life.
"We're accusing him of not being good for women and not good for children," said Forrester.
North says he had no role in the flier but he does say it does point out major differences between the candidates.
"Whatever you think about the imagery of that flier it points out a very important difference between me and my opponent and that's our attitude towards women and women's rights," said North.
That mailer isn't the only one that's been attracting attention in the race.
The State Republican Party sent out one earlier that accuses North of using a state employee to work on his campaign on state time.
"The bottom line is Phillip North is ethically challenged. He has not apologized for what happened with a state employee using state resources to campaign on his behalf," said Devaney.
North says the flier failed to point out an important fact.
He says the employee was actually working on state time without the campaign's knowledge or consent.
That employee was fired.
"He violated his agreement with us and doesn't work for us any longer and hasn't in over a month," said North.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.
Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).
Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.
MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.
CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
