WBFF Fox 45 :: Group of TSU Students Stuck in the Big Apple, Airport Closed
A group of TSU students in the Big Apple for a leadership conference was supposed to fly home today. They're now shooting for Saturday because the airport is closed. 14 students and the Associate Director of the University's Honors Program rode out Hurricane Sandy in Manhattan. They're staying at the Hilton Hotel, about 6 blocks from the broken crane you've heard so much about, and 14 blocks from the flooding and major power outages in lower Manhattan. In a phone interview this afternoon, Dr. William Latham told us he and the students ventured out this morning to find themselves virtually alone in Times Square and along Broadway.

"It was surprising, sort of a surreal moment to look around Manhattan and see no one at the time," says Dr. Latham. "Now it's kind of back up and running. People are back out again, but the subway is shut down, mass transit is still shut down."

Tonight on FOX17 NEWS, how the TSU group is absorbing the cost of a longer stay and why Dr. Latham thinks residents are poised to bounce back from this storm.Group of TSU Students Stuck in the Big Apple, Airport Closed

Tishomingo County voters OK beer, alcohol sales
May 22, 2013 23:38 GMT

IUKA, Miss. (AP) -- Tishomingo County is the latest Mississippi jurisdiction to legalize alcohol sales.

Voters approved the sale of liquor, wine and beer Tuesday, reports the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/13JCcix).

It wasn't clear referendums would pass until affidavit ballots were counted Wednesday.

With more than half Tishomingo County's voters casting ballots, legalizing alcohol passed by 42 votes, while legalizing beer and light wine passed by 73. The county borders Alabama and Tennessee.

Lawmakers legalized liquor at a proposed resort at the county's Bay Springs Lake in 2010, but it wasn't built.

Greene County voters legalized beer sales last year, while Corinth, New Albany and Senatobia have legalized alcohol sales under a 2012 law that allows cities to hold votes.

Mississippi has 13 remaining counties that allow no beer or alcohol sales.
